Smithyart welcomes Ras Johnson, our first Guest Artist.
"I was brought up on the Isle of Anglesey, spending much of my time exploring the beaches, woods and countrysde. I trained as an architect/planner with particular interests in conservation and historic and classical buildings.
I draw inspiration from the sea, beaches, and coast of Anglesey and North Wales, interlinked with the Welsh concept of hiraeth (a deep warmth and longing for home family and homeland) and the symbolism of shape pattern and textures in my memories.
Current work is exploring the abstraction and simplification of legend with natural and organic shapes blended with varying textures and materiasls."
